PARTNERSHIPS

Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) was established through the vision and leadership of the City of Burbank. Realizing that a local, community-based organization was the most efficient and viable vehicle for its housing program, the City helped and funded the initial formation of BHC. Since then, the City and its Housing Authority have had a truly unique partnership & have created such a distinctly new model of cooperative work that other cities & jurisdictions have sought to emulate it. The City of Burbank acts as the lender of all BHC projects, providing loans & grants that allow for the provision of services & support of the administrative work of BHC & its support services. In addition, the City works closely with BHC to ensure the quality & cost efficiency of each project, provides relocation assistance, and shares its technical support and skills.

A subsidiary of one of the nation's largest childcare providers, KinderCare Education at Work has partnered with Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) to operate the Peter McGrath Child Development Center and the Mary Alice O'Connor Family Center. Known for its high-quality curriculum and care, KinderCare continues to provide nationally accredited early childhood education programs for BHC families and the Burbank community. Approximately 20% of enrollment is reserved for income-eligible families at subsidized tuition rates with a priority to serve eligible residents of Burbank Housing Corporation. Together, BHC and KinderCare help ensure that high-quality childcare remains accessible to those who need it most.

Since 2010, Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) and Home Again Los Angeles (HALA) have partnered to address homelessness and strengthen housing stability in the Burbank community. Through this long-standing partnership, BHC has provided space within its facilities to support HALA's shelter and rehousing program through the Day Center and Jerry’s Promise, a three-unit transitional housing property for families experiencing homelessness. In turn, HALA has delivered case management, employment assistance, and other supportive resources to BHC residents. In early 2026, HALA merged with The Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) and moved into the BTAC facility, where BHC and HALA can continue their partnership and connect residents to HALA's services.

Established in 1992, New Directions for Veterans (NDVets) provides comprehensive services that help veterans achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) partnered with NDVets to provide supportive services for residents of the Burbank Veteran Bungalows, BHC's 11-unit permanent supportive housing community for veterans experiencing homelessness. In 2026, the Burbank Veteran Bungalows celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of providing stable housing and supportive services to our local veterans. Through this long-standing partnership, NDVets delivers case management and other supportive services that help residents maintain stable housing, improve their quality of life, and work toward long-term independence.

In November 2018, Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) partnered with the Boys & Girls Club (BGC) of Burbank and the Greater East Valley to address our families’ need for after-school care. Through this partnership, BHC provided free after-school programming and low-cost summer camp at the Elmwood Achievement Center and Peyton-Grismer Activity Center for eight years. As the needs of BHC families evolved and participation in the onsite after-school program declined, BHC transitioned the partnership in Fall 2026. BHC now partners with BGC to provide eligible BHC resident families with a special discounted rate at BGC's existing after-school programs located on Burbank Unified School District campuses. This new model continues BHC's commitment of ensuring that low-income families have access to affordable after-school care.

Family Service Agency (FSA), a long-established provider of mental health, counseling, and family support services, partners with Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC) operate Puerta Nueva, a transitional housing program for families who have experienced domestic violence. The property is owned by the City of Burbank, managed by Burbank Housing Corporation (BHC), and operated in partnership with FSA, which provides case management and supportive services to participating households. Through this collaborative effort, families receive both stable housing and the resources they need to work toward long-term independence. Many families who have completed the Puerta Nueva program have successfully transitioned into BHC's permanent affordable housing communities, allowing them to maintain stable housing while continuing to build independent lives.
